Timed Analysis: American Sniper



0:00-0:03-Warner Bros logo is displayed, the distribution company for the film
0;03-0:05- Village roadshow pictures logo is displayed, the production company for the film
0:08-0:12- panning shot rises up and focuses on Chris Kyle's face, camera is set at an extreme close up. Camera stops rising once it reaches his eyes,m suggests Kyle is focused
0:13-0:15- wide shot reveals where he is, shows the audience the destroyed terrain. also shows what Kyle is aiming at
0:19-0:26- eye line match shot. camera begins at a mid shot showing Kyle is aiming at something. camera then switches to a long shot revealing who he is aiming at. Gives the audience the impression they are looking down a sniper sight
0:41-0:46- the above is repeated, the audience once again sees Kyle aiming a something and it is revealed he is targeting someone. audience once again sees through the sniper scope. this time, the camera/scope starts panning when the target moves. the camera follows the target
0:48-0:52- camera quickly pans down to reveal two new targets, gives the audience the impression that they are seeing through a sniper scope
0:55-0:57- extreme wide shot of the terrain, everything is seen through a destroyed structure. camera is slowly zooming in
0:57-1;00- jumps to a white screen which informs the audience the film is directed by Clint Eastwood
1:00-1:01- Two person mid shot, camera is set at an over the shoulder shot. these shots are used to show these two characters are confronting the military
1:11-1:13- two shots used at different angles, follows the 180 degree rule. first shot is a mid-shot while the second is set at a close up
1:18-1:18- jumps to a white screen, tells the audience that the film stars Bradley Cooper
1:19-1:20- fades in from white, once again shows Kyle is aiming at something. two person mid-shot which fades out to black
1:24-1:27- fades in from black. camera is set at a wide shot to reveal Kyle is alone, camera changes angle to a close up of Kyle's face. Camera changes angle however, it follows the 180 degree rule. Lighting is low to build tension and it also suggests that Kyle is facing conflicting emotions. shot fades out to black
1:30-1:31-jumps to a white screen, tells the audience that the film stars Sienna Miller
1:34-1:35- match on action shot, camera changes angle after the soldiers launch the mortar. Follows the 180 degree rule
1:40-1:44- white screen displays the text American Sniper, reveals the name of the film to the audience. screen fades out to black
1:45-1:48- white screen fades in with the text "The most lethal sniper in U.S. history", builds anticipation for the film for the audience. Screen fades out to black
1:49-1:51- white screen fades in from black with the text "12.25.14", gives the audience the release date for the film. Screen fades out to black
